Description: A sweet and juicy little jewel! The garnets are a sumptuous deep berry purple pink and the crystal opal has a nice play of colour.
Age: c1880-1900 - It has a lot of Georgian features, crimped collet settings, cruciform shape, simple aesthetic but a Georgian cruciform would invariably be closed back so this one is later, probably mid to late Victorian (if you ever see a piece of opal jewellery described as Georgian, its not, opals were vanishingly rare, at least in the UK until c1880)
Size and weight: 3.81g 3.5cm Inc bale 2.6cm wide
Materials: Gold (c 9ct, we've only acid tested so far and that indicates may be a little better but not much, so assume 9ct). almandine garnet, opal.
Condition: Very good antique condition. A couple of the little crimped collets are absent from the top stone but its not noticeable and the setting is secure.
