Description: Very well made piece of jewellery in superb condition. The gem set top bale is removable and is a very sweet and usable piece in its own right. The amethysts are beautifully saturated and are likely Siberian as this is where good quality deep purple stones were coming from at the time. It has a screw fitting to the reverse so would have been part of a larger suite where it could have been attached to a brooch fitting or even a tiara. You can see in this piece the transition from the Victorian aesthetic to the "la belle epoque" styling of the early 20th century (itself a pre-cursor to the Art Deco movement - although there was a lot of overlap in styles.
