Description: Essex Crystal is a misnomer of course but it's shorthand for these gorgeous, reverse carved intaglio rock crystals. We never get the dog breeds right, but this one is a...spaniel? That's what we're saying anyway!
Age: c1890 Victorian
Size and weight: 7.8cm top to bottom, top part is 1.9cm across. 7g.
Materials: Gold, rock crystal
Condition: Good antique condition, its pretty dirty but most of the dirt is on the outside back, this could be cleaned, we tend to leave as we find with these sort of things. Its possible a little of the dirt has made its way inside underneath the bottom of the dog. Anyway a light clean would probably do wonders. The back of the crystal (or the mother of pearl type backing) is very slightly crazed in places. It's still a great looking crystal. The pin has lost the very tip of its point so its not sharp, it goes through material fine and could be sharpened to a point easily.
