Description: Smooth, tactile little locket in remarkable condition.
Age: c1830 could be a little earlier, hard to pin down precisely, certainly 19th century, the plain, modest styling leans towards Georgian sensibilities and we feel like a Victorian jeweller would have been absolutely itching to add some scrollwork or other engraving - its plain, almost puritanical design doesn't fit with jewellery made much later. The hairwork with the scrolling, gold ribbon was done like this pretty much throughout the 19th century but this feels early.
Size and weight: 12.6g, 3.5cm to top of bail x 2cm wide.
Materials: Gold (not yet x-ray tested, bail acid tested to min 9ct but we don't want to risk damaging the rest, assume 9ct), enamel, human hair, glass
Condition: Excellent. Only one side of the locket has a glass but we think this is as it would always have been.
