Description: Beautiful pendant featuring an unusually large opal cabochon showing flashes of green and lilac. Includes antique gold chain although if you don't require this we can drop the price.
Age: c1900 late Victorian just creeping into early 20th century belle epoque style
Size and weight: 8.8g gross. Chain 2.7g. 4.1cm drop inc bail. 2.7cm wide. Opal is 1.9cm x 1.4cm. Chain just over 16"
Materials: Opal, gold (chain is 9ct with an antique 9ct stamp, pendant is gold, not yet tested for fineness, to follow), amethyst, seed pearl.
Condition: Good antique condition. It appears that there may have been a brooch fitting which has been removed. The bail is a little cleaner and brighter and is removable, its possible that this part has remained unworn whilst the piece was worn as a brooch or it may be a replacement, we're undecided. The opal is showing some fine, straight stress cracks running from 8 o' clock to 1 o' clock which look like natural defects in the stone and not something that's happened later, in the right light you can see these. The reverse of the stone has a little of the boulder matrix showing, this is 100% invisible from the front.
