Description: A wonderful quality cameo in a gold frame to match. We're not sure who the subject is here having forgotten most of Sunday school! Hopefully one of you can enlighten us? The young boy is terrifically well carved (those feet!) and whist some of the fine detail has been slightly worn away you can still make out some very fine carving (eg the words carved into the ribbon around the top of the cross/staff. The gold frame is a work of art in itself, beautifully hand chased and enamelled. The cameo itself bears the remnants of a signature but we can't make this out, looks like t_at_x!?
Age: Early Victorian c 1850
Size and weight: 23.7g. 6cm x 5.3cm. Note: There is around £650 / $700 just in scrap gold here!
Materials: 18ct gold, enamel, shell, base metal pin.
Condition: Overall good antique condition. To the naked eye the enamel looks perfect but under 10x loupe you can see some nibbles here and there. Some little stress cracks to the shell when held up to light. To the right of his foot is a little residue perhaps old glue, very hard to spot and may well come off.
