Antique Micromosaic Swan Bird Brooch Pin in Gold Cannetille Frame in Style of Carlo Giuliano

Description: Very sweet micromosaic. The gold frame is so good - you couldn't have this sort of work done today (the front that is, the reverse is base metal and quite boring but then that's why its the back!). Even though its only tiny, the more you look at this one, the more that pops out, some of the tesserae are iridescent to show reflection on the water and the main part is framed by small, geometric patterns, then we have the exquisite gold cannetille frame. Both the goldwork and mosaic are reminiscent of Victorian revivalist jewellers Castellani and Guilliano and we've seen exactly this geometric border used on Giulliano's pieces before. If it could be attributed then it takes it into a whole new level value wise. We think it's probably been part of something else to start with and has been mounted on a back not befitting its quality! Anyway, this one is much better in the flesh than the photos!  A lovely little jewel.

Size and weight: 4g. A diminutive 2.3cm x 1.8cm

Materials: High carat gold, glass, base metal back plate and pin. 

Condition: Excellent, no losses. Back, base metal part is a little underwhelming but you don't see that bit!
