Description: Find another one of these! John Stevens work is in the British museum's archive although little is known about him from what we can find out. We have seen and sold a lot of pique work pieces (the Victorians didn't have so many materials to work with so they turned to nature, unluckily for the turtle who's shell was moulded and inlaid with gold and silver) this is the only one we've seen set with a gem. And it is a beautiful, silky citrine. Signed JS. Would not be out of place in a museum. You'll never find another!

Age: c1860 Victorian

Size and weight: 4cm. 6.6g.

Materials: Tortoiseshell (actually the shell of a marine turtle) citrine, 9ct gold, silver.

Condition: Excellent, no losses to the pique work.
