Description: These are sometimes described as poison rings and if you took out the glass and locket fittings then, why not! Really its a memorial ring and the opening locket section would hold a piece of the deceased loved one's hair. The hair is no more but that dies leave you an empty space should you wish to put something in there (bear in mind the glass on these things is usually tricky to get in and out so we've not attempted to). The intaglio is really cute and unusual displaying a prancing cat surrounded by a garland and family motto and this would have been used to mark hot wax seals on correspondence. To the reverse is a hand engraved inscription "In remembrance of Jane Simms who died August 20th 1859". A nice wearable size for a gent but could be worn by anyone.
Age: Memorial Inscription for August 20th 1859
Size and weight: 9.58g size T 9.5, setting 1.5cm x 1.2cm
Materials: 18ct gold, banged onyx or agate intaglio, glass locket frame
