Description: A mesmerising opal pendant with fantastic play of colour. There are definite arts and crafts overtones and it's certainly a hand made, one off piece but we think it's a pretty, generic piece from the time rather than something that can be attributed to a maker. Whenever you see Opal pieces from this time you think of Rhoda Wager but she more often than not worked in silver and her pieces were usually a little more elaborate.
Age: c1920 Arts and crafts
Size and weight: 2.7g , pendant 4cm, opal setting 2cm x 1.6cm
Materials: 9ct gold, black opal doublet - a doublet is where a slice of precious opal is put onto another material so that what you see is just the important, gem part but it is made secure and usable by binding to another material. This may also be boulder opal which develops in seams within boulders and is cut whilst still attached to the base rock in luck the same way.
