Description: We can guarantee you're not going to see anyone else wearing this brooch! A true embodiment of the arts & crafts ethos - hand made, unique and showcasing some almost alien looking, bonkers opals! We don't think we could ever pin this down to a known maker, its more of a generic piece made my an individual jeweller. A very oddball, striking and interesting piece.
Age: c1890-1900 early arts and crafts
Size and weight: 15.9g, 5.5cm x 3cm.
Materials: Boulder opal, silver, marcasite.
Condition: The opals are all a little crazed and cracked but really, if you're too bothered about this you've kind of missed the point of this brooch! They've been selected for their beautiful play of colour and the jeweller is celebrating the rough, raw nature of the stones. They're lumpy and bumpy and rough and ready...but absolutely beautiful! The silver is quite tarnished but we like this antique patina. It would look great polished up also but we much prefer it this way.
