Blue John Derbyshire Feldspar Antique Gold Orb Talisman Pendant

Description: A unique Blue John pendant. If you've got this far you're probably aware of what blue John is. It comes from just one small area in Derbyshire (less than 4 miles from us here!) so it's a rare stone. Having said this, in terms of supply and demand there's enough for anybody who wants some - but it is always sold as one of planet earth's rarest gems, which is true of course! This one has a bit of a magical talisman feel about it, it's very tactile and just a little bit rough and ancient looking. It's quite hard to find antique pieces, especially those set in gold and this one is certainly antique. 

Age:  Late Victorian, possibly much earlier but impossible to give an exact date, Blue John we think was discovered in the 1700s although this is disputed with some saying it has been around since Roman times. 

Size and weight: 8.32g , approx 2cm diameter 

Materials: Blue John, 9ct gold 

Condition: Good antique condition, it is not polished smooth like a marble and has multiple surface defects and fractures - it's impossible to tell if it's taken a bashing over the years or whether it's always been like this, blue John is quite brittle. There's bail attached to the top, we can add on an open loop of gold.
