Victorian Banded Agate Hardstone Signed Cameo Pendant in Gold Frame

Description: Very nice example -  Imagine the hard work and skill required to select a lump of rock with just the right thickness of dark and light bands hidden inside and then the artistry to slowly carve away to reveal this beauty (who has been hidden inside the whole time, since the dawn of time!) A true miniature work of art! 

There are all sorts of numbers and squiggles and presumably a name to the reverse but these are hard to make out. It was found in London and may well be by someone good.

Age: c1870

Size and weight:17.35g gross. 5.5cm x 3.5cm

Materials: Hardstone cameo, 9ct Rose Gold frame 

Condition: Very good  - please note there is a hairline crack across the middle. We have applied some epoxy resin along the length of the crack to the rear of the piece only - where this cannot be seen - this is only to stabilise it and stop it moving around in the future, luckily from the front (where we have done nothing) the crack is very hard to spot, you need to catch it in the light to see. Nevertheless it is imperfect.
