Description: Very unusual (indeed it's certainly one of a kind) devotional cross. It has a tiny locket compartment for a lock of hair or perhaps a tiny bone fragment from a saint or other holy person. The front with imperial topaz and seed pearls is particularly well made and very sparkly. Almost certainly made for a man of the clergy and would have been an expensive and difficult thing to have made.
Age: Late 18th century - 1st quarter 19th century
Size and weight: 6.43g 3.5cm not inc bale x 2.5cm
Materials: Carnelian, 9ct gold, pearls, imperial topaz, glass
Condition: Excellent. The top bail is likely a replacement.
