Description: A very old, very beautiful hand made necklace. It has a provincial feel to it, its been professionally made but we think by a small, working jeweller sometime in the mid to late 18th century. We always called this one "the farmers wife's necklace" as it has flowers and corn cobs amongst the most delicate gold work - there's certainly a lot of symbolism here that you could have fun deciphering!
Age: c1770
Size and weight: 5.12g pendant drop 5 cm, chain 44cm 17.3"
Materials: High carat gold, aquamarine, pink topaz, bottom, orange stone TBD, foil, enamel
Condition: Very good for its age and very wearable. The gold back on the largest pink stone has worn away leaving the metal foil exposed, this does not affect the appearance from the front at all. The bottom drop has lost half the gold backing and this has created a slightly mottled effect when viewed from the front - nothing that spoils the look. the central leaf motif may appear to be bent at the top but on closer inspection it appears to be attached at the top (behind the corn) so looks to have always been this way. Typically Georgian engraved square clasp works great.
