Description: Typical but very nice example of a mid-Victorian mourning locket
Age: c1870
Size and weight: 4.5cm Inc bale x 2.8cm, 0.5cm depth 10.75g
Materials: 9ct gold back and front, some of the body of the locket is metal and the top loop is gold plated
Condition: Very good, the front gold section and enamel is excellent, the reverse (at about 5 o'clock as you look at it) has some areas where the the gold has worn through slightly (although it looks more like the engraver has just been a bit over zealous rather than it wearing away over the years). You can't really notice this as the engraving is quite busy (and also its on the back) but its definitely not perfect if you look really closely. Opens and closes well and in fact you have to get your nail right in there (between 2 and 3 o' clock as you look at the front) to open it! The top loop is gold plated and this has worn - if you ask we'll supply a spare should you wish to replace it and freshen it up.
