Description: A showstopper of a natural pink sapphire (actually it's partly orange, partly pink! The main body is pink but there's a lovely orange splodge in there) This ring is available but we're sending to to the lab to see exactly what's what with the pink stone (and if the price needs to come down or go up!) but if you're interested, please let us know.
Age: c1940-45 Late art deco / mid-century. This ring can be dated fairly accurately because (very rarely) it's made of palladium - during the war what little platinum there was available was needed for the war effort so jewellers had to get a bit creative especially as gold was also expensive. Palladium is next to platinum in the periodic table and shares very similar properties. Today Palladium is on a par value wise with platinum although it was around 4x the price for a while for some unknown reason probably to do with semi conductor production or something boring like that! On top of that the nice cushion cut stones look right for the period as well.
