Description: A very intriguing ring! A showstopper of a natural pink spinel (actually it's partly orange, partly pink! The main body is pink but there's a lovely orange splodge in there). Quite a rare stone, spinels are coveted in the jewellery trade and are often mistaken for other gems (see the black prince's ruby for the most famous example!) It comes with a lab certificate for the spinel and also features two fabulous old cut diamonds

Age: c1940-45 Late art deco / mid-century. This ring can be dated fairly accurately because (very rarely) it's made of palladium - during the war what little platinum there was available was needed for the war effort so jewellers had to get a bit creative especially as gold was also expensive. Palladium is next to platinum in the periodic table and shares very similar properties. Today Palladium is on a par value wise with platinum although it was around 4x the price for a while for some unknown reason probably to do with semi conductor production or something boring like that! On top of that the nice cushion cut stones are right for the period as well or may have been recycled from an earlier piece.

Size and weight: 2.6g UK size O, US size 7.25. Can be re-sized a little but please ask.

Materials: Palladium, Natural pink spinel, natural diamonds (lab report card included and verbal wholesale valuation for the spinel was £850 per carat @2.5 carats or£2559 to buy at today's prices - this was from RM Weare, a lab used and trusted by the UK jewellery trade - they don't do silly, fake valuations!)

Condition: Very good
