Description: Cameos are something of a specialty here and we have never seen the like! The cameo carving itself is beautifully carved in high relief (the nose, the hair, really beautiful and she really pops out due to the way the carver has used the natural shape of the shell) but the subject is frankly unremarkable. What makes this unusual is the Scottish pebble blue lace agate surround. We've sold hundreds of antique pebble brooches (big fan!) and thousands of cameos but never seen the 2 together. Must have been a special commission with the subject a beloved wife or daughter.
Age: c1850s - Victoria made all things Scottish very trendy after the purchase of Balmoral in 1848.
Size and weight: 19.1g 5.1cm x 4.8cm
Materials: Silver, shell, blue lace agate.
Condition: Excellent. We have not polished the patina from the silver, it would come up very shiny if you chose to do this.
