Description: Possibly a grand tour souvenir from Florence, a very pretty and well made Italian "Pietra Dura" or hardstone brooch. Each element is a tiny hand cut piece of semi precious hardstone which is placed inside a black slate background and polished to give this wonderful effect. The ability to make this type of jewellery is dying out, certainly in India its still made but rarely to this fine level of workmanship.
