Description: An electric little object! Unbelievable craftmanship to say its so old. Its like a lovely, heavy little gold egg! Take the hinge - its almost invisible, not easy to do! And the hairwork inside is very skilful too. About as nice a an antique gold locket as you'll see and its a lovely compact size. The price has had to reflect the ever increasing gold price - there is a lot of value in the metal here alone!
Age: c1830-1850 late Georgian / William IV / early Victorian.
Size and weight: 20.06g 4.3cm Inc bale x 2.5cm
Materials: Solid 18ct gold (unmarked but tested, its possible the retaining rings are a lower carat gold as these need to be more robust, 18ct would be too soft), glass, hair
Condition: Very good antique condition. Both the initials (TS or ST) and the buckled belt are not applied, they are held in place with a couple of pins which go through from the front of the locket to the reverse, so these are a little loose and move around slightly. We wouldn't have said this needs any attention but there is a little antique grime under both which is hard to get at! If you took out the interior you'd see where these are attached.
