Description: Classic Victorian old cut diamond and sapphire 5 stone ring
Age: London date letter "S" in a square with chamfered corners most closely matches 1833 but its not an exact match for any London dates on record; the actual S itself is a best match for 1893 but this year is supposed to be in a shield and this one is in a square - almost 0% of the time a date letter actually matches up correctly with those on record for the various assay offices (which is really infuriating!). Whilst we'd love to call this a late Georgian/William IV ring, on balance we'd say 1893 is a better fit as a lot of ring of this type were being produced then.
Size and weight: 3.93g size P 7.75 setting approx 2cm across
Materials: 18ct yellow gold (hallmarked), old cut diamonds just over 1 carat in total, drawing some yellow and around J/K colour, the two side stones are a little included but only under 10x magnification, the centre stone is much cleaner, the sapphires, just uner a carat in total are natural (be careful, a lot of these tend to be synthetic, lab grown sapphires which were being used way back in the 19th century) and a deep blue colour, one is a better, more royal blue colour but is quite included, the other is lighter and showing some colour zoning. So overall, by todays standards they're good stones, but not top drawer.
Condition: Very good, band ever so slightly thinning and may have been re-sized at some point but hallmarks are in tact and nothing to worry about.
