Description: A very cool little Georgian ring worn as a reminder of ones own mortality! It came to us exactly like this from a good, retiring dealer around 15 years ago but looking at it now we can't say that it started out life exactly as is. The main body of the ring is dead right for early Georgian and is testing as high carat gold, the skull is encased under a thin piece of glass - we'd prefer this to be a sliver of rock crystal - and its likely that this has been put on or replaced later. We can't get to the skull to test him but he's presumed to be silver and also looks typical for the time. This means we also can't get to his eyes to test them but we're sure they're paste not diamonds as the cut is wrong and too modern. So please make your own mind up or ask questions, we do feel that this ring is at least partially restored or possibly a marriage of parts - it would be very easy to just call this a Georgian gold and diamond memento mori ring and most people would never know any better but we sell everything honestly, warts and all.

Age: Ring is c 1780, please see above description.

Size and weight: L 5.75, ring face 1.2cm x 1cm, 4g

Materials: High carat gold (min 18ct), silver skull, eyes presumed to be paste, glass front

Condition: Very good notwithstanding the concerns outlined above
