Description: Super ring, very heavy, smooth and tactile and with a beautiful "Memento Mori" diamond and silver skull. This ring also holds a secret - it opens to reveal a small compartment, perfect for smuggling governmental secrets, magic potions or a dose of poison intended to harm a rival. Ok not really, it was probably originally a locket compartment to hold a lock of hair or a small keepsake. The hinge is almost invisible and the whole thing is beautifully constructed. Memento Mori motifs were often used in jewellery to remind the wearer that life is fleeting and should be respected and lived to the full - a sentiment that still resonates today.
Age: Victorian - Full hallmarks for 1864 (date letter "P" - 1864 looks the best match, 1787 is similar but this ring wouldn't appear to be that early)
