Description: Very unusual piece of Victorian pebble jewellery (which was made popular by Victoria and Albert with their purchase of Balmoral - everything Scottish was suddenly en vogue and remained so for the rest of the century and beyond). 99% of these Scottish pieces are in silver and then the gold ones are nearly always just the plain round or oval brooches with local Scottish stones. So as well as being gold, the shape is very unusual, possibly unique and has possibly been made for a Scottish Groomsman and is designed to take a posy of flowers (see pic) - it would look amazing again on a wedding day with some thistles and Scottish blooms and worn with the full regalia! Then finally its in its original box from a very good and historic Edinburgh maker, still going today!
For some reason the little knop at the end screws on and off - we don't know why! Thee must be a reason, please let us know if you know!
Age: c1880, no date mark but registration No. 4642 which presumably would be in RL Christies books somewhere!
Size and weight: 3.74g 5.5cm at widest.
Materials: 9ct gold, Scottish hardstones, possibly bloodstone and Jasper.
Condition: Excellent. Box included.
