Early Victorian Gold Cased Watch Fob Pendant With Carved Stag Intaglio

Description: Lovely antique fob with a brilliant carved intaglio with a family crest including resplendent stag, initials and the motto " Hog Agas Et Dures" - We're not sure about that one! The Dures bit is may relate to durability/steadfastness/resolve? and agas perhaps a servant? So best guess something to do with being a servant to God through thick and thin!? That is at best an educated guess!   

Age: c1860 Victorian

Size and weight: 9.48g, 3cm top to bottoms Bottom is 2.5cm x 1.5cm

Materials: 9ct gold, other metals, chalcedony intaglio. These are nearly always a mixture of gold, base metal and sometimes pitch or plaster of paris inside these - besides destroying it to find out there's no way to know how much actual gold is in there! These things are nearly always sold as gold but that's a bit disingenuous we feel!  

Condition: Good, the colour you see on the intaglio is just some antique residual wax, this would come out of course, we've just left it as it shows up the stag nicely.
