Whitby Jet Pair Antique Victorian Cameo Bracelets in High Relief

Description: A rare pair! These have a lot going for them - Whitby jet, antique, rare, in great condition and a pair!

It’s not uncommon to find shell cameos with jet backing where an Italian carving has been imported and mounted in the uk and made into jewellery but you don’t often see jet cameos as the carvers in and around Whitby generally preferred to carve geometric or organic looking shapes and it was nearly always made into plain brooches or beads. Jet cameos are fairly rare as are jet bracelets and so to find a pair is pretty difficult!

Elastic is new and not particularly neatly tied but other than that they’re in almost perfect antique condition. they were hand carved out of jet in around 1870 and have survived brilliantly!

Age: c1870 Victorian

Size and weight: 85g gross. Will stretch to fit most wrists. Cameos approx 4cm high.
